Borders are necessary to maintain the ideal garden design, which can be spoiled by plants crawling from one zone to another. Many lawn grasses multiply and must be manually removed from flowerbeds when they spread excessively. Fortunately, there are several ways to prevent this with border edging materials.

Border edging
The first thing that comes to mind is plastic or metal border edging installed around garden beds. Gardeners criticize plastic materials for their fragility and short life. Still, they are pretty helpful in separating plantings and neatly drawing the boundaries of the flowerbeds. Metal edging is almost invisible; when it is visible, it adds beautiful accents to garden beds. Installing a border edging between the lawn and the flowerbed improves the appeal.

Also, walkways created with barrier materials, like landscaping rocks, salvaged wood, bricks, and concrete pavers, make beautiful borders.
Garden edge ditch
Digging a 10-15 cm depth around the flowerbeds makes it impossible to spread lawn grass. This is a small ditch dug along the border of the flower bed and has two slopes: the inner slope, going from the flower bed, is gentle and smooth, and from the lawn side, it is sharp and steep. So the lawn grasses grow as if “at the edge” and cannot grow uncontrollably. The downside of this border is that you often have to rake out the trash from the ditch.
Landscaping rocks and pavers
Landscaping rocks and pavers are durable and attractive border materials that give the garden a well-groomed appearance and can become part of the original design. However, this way of creating an edge is not suitable for those who plan to change the shape and size of the flower bed often.
Mulch
If clear boundaries do not suit your yard and garden designs, you can cover the flower beds with a layer of mulch about 5 cm thick. Mulch itself will not stop the growth of weeds, but it can slow down the growth by blocking light. In addition, mulch protects against weed seeds.
Ground covers
Another, slightly risky way is to fill the space between decorative plants and lawns. Decorative ground covers, strategically planted along the garden bed edges, will not allow lawn grass to spread. However, any ground cover actively spreads, and perhaps the lawn must be protected from it over time.
