Invisible flower bed borders are simple and attractive. They keep grass from invading your flower beds and garden paths. Flower bed borders eliminate the need for edge trimming and give a natural look to garden design. Lushome collection of garden design ideas show how to use invisible metal or plastic borders for creating gorgeous flower beds and garden paths.
Invisible borders look great and require almost no maintenance. Metal flower bed borders are a metal strip which subtly separates the lawn from the garden path or flower bed. The simplest and most subtle borders are 4-inch deep strips of steel, aluminum or plastic.
Invisible borders bend easily into smooth, graceful curves and stop the spread of grass helping create neat and beautiful garden design. Painted aluminum and steel borders offer the sleekest, most refined look. Painted green or brown colors, these flower bed borders almost disappear against the grass and garden bed edge.

The plastic types of borders have a prominent black bulge along the top edge. Metal and plastic border materials work best on fairly even terrain. If your yard has a lot of dips and rises, it is easier to install a paver border.
Aluminum and steel borders cost about the same, but aluminum is much lighter. Metal borders give garden design a professional look and save your energy.
You need to install the border with the top edge about 1/2 inch above the soil level to keep roots from crossing over the top. This makes the flower bed border almost invisible and allows you to mow right over the top. The thin top edge of metal borders can hurt bare feet, so these borders are not good for backyards designed for kids.

Steel edging is the most common metal edging. Steel edging comes in a variety of colors. Steel borders rust especially in a salty environment. Aluminum edging, besides being lighter and stiffer, does not rust and is available in a variety of colors also.
Black plastic edging is almost invisible also. It is a popular choice for creating beautiful flower bed borders. The plastic materials are flexible and are ready to withstand those inevitable bumps and hard knocks that go with lawn mowing.
